ATR GROUP WIN EXCLUSIVE £3 MILLION DISTRIBUTORSHIP FOR REACTEC PRODUCT IN THE UKCS
ATR Group - the global plant, lifting and tool rental specialist – announces today (Friday 9th July 2010) it has won an exclusive distributorship for the HAVmeter product by Reactec. The contract will see distribution of the product in the UKCS and is worth £3 million over two years. This is the latest offering in new technologies from the Aberdeen based company.
HAVmeter – a lightweight piece of kit the size of a pager from Reactec - is the first device in the UK which can calculate and record an individual’s cumulative, real time vibration data across all vibratory tools throughout their working day.
Keith Moorhouse, Managing Director of ATR Group, says,
“We saw a huge opportunity in bringing this innovative technology to the UKCS to solve a problem which many of our clients sought a solution to. This product is an essential piece of kit to improve health surveillance within the oil and gas sector.”
Around 1 in 10 workers who regularly operate hand and power tools may develop Hand Arm Vibration syndrome (HAVs). There are several diseases caused by regular exposure to HAV, so in terms of HSE regulations this kit is essential for compliance and an imperative part of our offering alongside our hand tool supply. Vibration emissions of hand-held power tools vary greatly from user to user as tools have different exposure values and are used for different periods of time throughout the working day or week. HAVmeter gives accurate readings of when each user should cease tool use.
As a supplier we are responsible for every piece of kit issued and have rigorous checks before any tool is issued. HAVmeter also gives end users the capabilities to gauge their own safe limits within their working environment and have evidence to back this up".
Keith continues, “We were amazed by how simple yet groundbreaking HAVmeter is. Regulations in force, such as the European Union’s Physical Agents Directive and the UK’s Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, means that employers are obliged to provide a veritable record of employee exposure and this software ensures that the data is tamper proof. The product is also accepted by the insurance industry and so use can reduce claim premiums.”
This new technology returns data that is precise and more detailed, as well as being quicker and easier to collect. It eliminates the need for input from operatives or supervisors, allowing them to concentrate on the job at hand which is the most important thing to our clients. Paperless HAV management can be the only way forward on many grounds and will set the standard for addressing the problem of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome. The technology, methodology and efficiency of the system are proven – names like Carillion, Tarmac and Balfour Beatty use this system as standard.
Keith concludes, “We offer the widest selection of hand tools and consumables in the UKCS. This recent contract win will enable us to facilitate the needs of our clients operating in the complex industry sectors of offshore oil and gas, subsea production and renewables. Key partnerships such as this are vital to maintaining ATR’s position as a strategic supplier to these sectors.”
